Alliouagana Commune
The concept of the Alliouagana Commune originated in the artistic renaissance of the early 1970s in Montserrat with the new University Centre as the hub of an island-wide current of popular awareness and creative activity that may well be described a a cultural collective.  It was a people's movement to document, reevaluate, redefine and preserve the folk traditions and creative energy tht had long been despised and marginalized by colonial administrations and the privileged classes of local society.

Out of this cultural ferment emerged the following activities and literary productions under the umbrella of the Alliouagana Commune and the University Center headed by J A George Irish, followed by Howard A Fergus:
Alliouagana Arts Festival
Alliouagana Drummers
Alliouagana Dancers
Alliouagana Voices (Poetry)
Alliouagana Folk (Folklore)
A Song for Alliouagana (Poetry)
Alliouaagana in Focus
Alliouagana in Agony
Perspectives for Alliouagana (Essays)
Further Perspectives for Alliouagana (Journalism)
Dreams of Alliouagana (Anthology)
A History of Alliouagana
The Sea Gull and Other Stories (Anthology)

The work of the Commune is the collective effort of all the people of Montserrat - scholars, writers, musicians, choirs, playwrights, actors, producers and the masses of local folk who have supported the concerts, festivals, competitions and dramatic productions with such enthusiasm over the years.
