PRINTING GUIDELINES
Please adjust halftones before creating PDF files. Halftones within PDF files may require additional charges and cannot always be adjusted.
Please do not create file names longer than 31 characters, or use special characters like slashes and question marks in file names, as this may cause files to error on our system.
We accept recent versions of QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign, FreeHand, PhotoShop, Illustrator, or PDF with fonts & images embedded.
We prefer that files be submitted on 5Ό. CD-Roms,
but we also accept: 5Ό. DVDs, 3½. Diskettes, 3½. Syquest EZ 135MB Cartridges,
3½. Iomega Zip 100MB or 250MB Disks, or 5Ό. Iomega Jaz 1GB Cartridges.
We do not accept or support files created in Microsoft Publisher, Word, Works, CorelDraw, FrameMaker, Ventura, Excel, Power Point, or any application not listed.
However, most Windows applications can be converted to PDF with .PDF995., a free program available for download at .http://www.pdf995.com..
If both PDF files and native application files are provided on the submission disk we will use the PDF files first, and use the native application files as a backup only. If you do not wish us to use the PDF files to print the job, please do not include them on the submission disk.
Our quote includes BLEEDS ON THE COVER and does NOT include BLEEDS ON THE TEXT (Inside Pages), unless specified in the Notes section of the quote.
IF BLEEDS ARE NOT QUOTED, all items must be a minimum of 3/8 away from the trim edge (1/2 preferred) to allow for press gripper.
IF BLEEDS ARE QUOTED, items that bleed must extend 1/8 past the trim edge and items that do not bleed must be a minimum of 1/8. away from the trim edge (1/4. preferred) so it is clear these items should not trim.
Please contact your Customer Service Representative at least 10 days prior to submission of your job if you have questions about your electronic file or need free assistance. Please have your quote available for reference.

. ..Image resolution is 300 or higher - do not enlarge image after they are placed on
the page, as this reduces the resolution.
Images that print 1-color are Grayscale. (not RGB or Indexed.
Grayscale images have a 2% whitest dot, a 94% blackest dot, flesh tones are
generally no darker than 25% - image that should have no background have a
0% background.
Images that print 4-color are .CMYK. (not RGB or Indexed.
Layered Photoshop files have been included in case adjustments are needed.
Spine dimension has been requested from sales rep or customer service rep for
perfectbound, notchbound, and layflat.
Spine type is horizontal, reading from top to bottom (unless intentionally created
otherwise.
Perfectbound or Notchbound Cover - for proper gluing and printing on the inside
spine, as well as 3/32. on either side of the inside spine.
Layflat Cover - for proper gluing - no printing on the inside spine, as well as 1/2 on
either side of the inside spine, as well as 1/2 from the spine on the first and last page.
Dust Jacket or Case Cover - a written diagram has been requested from sales rep
Or customer service rep showing proper trims, gutters, and flap size.
Page numbers - Left hand page numbers are on the left side, right hand page
numbers are on the right side - or all page numbers are centered - please indicate if
created otherwise.
Page number placement is OK As I.
Headers and footers placed consistently.
Margins consistent - inside and outside margins are consistent on left hand pages
and right hand page.
Drill Holes - type is 5/8. away from spine edge for 1/4. hole.
Wire-O, Spiral Wire, Plastic Comb, Plastic Coil - type is ½ away from spine edge to
allow for puncher.
Spot colors have been selected from the Pantone Match ing System.
Rich Black is made from 50% (CMY) + 100% (K), not the color Registration.
Barcode is a high resolution, 100% Black EPS file and placed in the electronic cover
file in the correct position please indicate if otherwise - .
Barcode Provided Separately.
If Furnishing a Preprinted Cover - a copy has been furnished showing final trim size
for accurate cutting and binding.
Please check your files for these common causes of additional charges and schedule delays:
l Missing Font.
l Missing Image File.
l Adjustments Needed to Halftones.
l PDF Files Do Not Have Fonts/Images Embedded.
l Spine Size Incorrect.
l Document Page Size Does Not Match Quote.
l Page Count Does Not Match Quote
l Hard Copy Does Not Match Digital File
l Inconsistent Margin.
l Inconsistent Page Number Placement.
l Bleed Items Do Not Extend 1/8. Beyond Trim.
l Type/Images Less Than 1/8. from Trim or Puncture.
l Low Resolution Images (less than 300 dpi.
l Images Should Be CMYK or Grayscale (not RGB or Indexed).
l Images Should Be TIF, EPS, or PSD Format
l Barcode Should Be Made of 100% K, not CMY.
